I was in the kitchen with my wife this past Saturday holding our son when he decided to spit up on my shoulder. This was not new to me, but I normally carry a burp cloth whenever I have the little guy just in case. Annoyed, I walked towards the living room to retrieve a cloth when I tripped over the car seat. My wife put it down somewhere we don’t usually leave it but in fairness to her I did walk by it on my way to the kitchen. I caught myself on a chair with my elbow so thankfully I didn’t hit the floor holding my son. Unfortunately the little guy’s lower leg hit the back of the chair and got bruised. Of course he started to desperately scream as if his leg was broken in 3 places, and of course we reacted as if it had been. I called the doctor, while she attempted to calm him with cuddling and boobs. A half hour later he was fine but it took much longer for us to recover. She spent the rest of the weekend trying to remove any possible trip hazards while I tried to process what had happened. I am willing to bet that something like this will happen again at some point and that is the scariest thing of all.
